NEMA and OIMC contribute to updating the mapping of Brazilian mangroves

On the 18th of March, a Wednesday, the National Secretariat for Climate Change of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, in partnership with Ibama, is hosting the launch ceremony for the ‘Update of the Mapping of Brazilian Mangroves’, a project that includes NEMA/UERJ and the OIMC.

Last Tuesday, 10 March, the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Museum invited Prof. Mário L. G. Soares to speak at the Biodiversity Forum. The coordinator of NEMA/UERJ and member of the OIMC Strategic Group gave a lecture on the topic ‘Brazilian Mangroves: a meeting of waters, knowledge and a source of life’.

Short course on the Anthropocene and the Climate Emergency, a partnership between OIMC and FGV

In February 2026, Prof. Carlos R. S. Milani was invited to spend an internship as a Visiting Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra (CES-UC) in Portugal, with support from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

Seminar on Climate Emergency and Defence, at the School of Army Command and General Staff

On 25 November, the Observatory, in partnership with the Graduate Programme in Military Sciences at the School of Army Command and General Staff, is promoting the ‘International Seminar on Climate Emergency and Defence: COP 30 and its impact on the Armed Forces’ at the ECEME headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.

OIMC at COP30: Roundtable Discussions at Casa da Cidade – Week 1

From 11 to 20 November, the Observatory joins forces with the City Laboratory and the Institute for Climate and Society to promote a series of Roundtable Discussions at Casa da Cidade, an activity running parallel to COP30. With 18 face-to-face meetings, the initiative aims to establish a space for dialogue on key issues on the climate agenda – and on conference negotiations in particular.

OIMC, CSSN and NAEA hold Seminar on Climate Obstruction: A Global Assessment, at UFPA

Next Friday, 14 November, during COP30 in Belém (PA), the Centre for Advanced Amazonian Studies at the Federal University of Pará will host the Observatory and the Climate Social Sciences Network to promote the seminar ‘Climate Obstruction: A Global Assessment’ at the UFPA Guamá campus.

OIMC holds COP 30 Negotiations Simulation at UERJ

On 11 and 12 November, in tandem with the beginning of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Observatory team is promoting a COP30 Negotiations Simulation at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
