OIMC establishes collaboration plan with the Institute of International Relations and Defence at UFRJ

The Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (OIMC-UERJ) and the Institute of International Relations and Defence at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IRID-UFRJ) have just officially established a plan for inter-institutional partnership and collaboration on academic activities for an initial period of five years, starting in 2027. Developed by Prof. Danielle Costa da Silva (IRID-UFRJ and OIMC-UERJ), in partnership with the Director of the OIMC, Prof. Carlos R. S. Milani, the collaboration project envisages interaction between the research, teaching and social and political advocacy activities carried out by the Observatory and the Institute’s undergraduate programmes in International Relations and Defence and International Strategic Management, as well as its research groups and outreach activities.

Among the initiatives planned by the new partnership, to be developed jointly by the OIMC team and the IRID academic and student bodies, are:

  • The publication of articles resulting from joint research in issues of Cadernos do OIMC and the organisation of a special dossier for the journal Diálogos Internacionais;
  • The provision of elective subjects taught in partnership between IRID-UFRJ lecturers and members of the OIMC, based on the Observatory’s research themes;
  • The organisation of inter-institutional lectures and seminars open to the general public on topics such as foreign policy, human rights, climate change, feminist and intersectional studies, and security;
  • Events and lectures on the climate emergency, presenting the various aspects investigated by the OIMC to the UFRJ community;
  • Outreach activities aimed at the UFRJ community, such as workshops and courses based on the training modules already developed by the OIMC;
  • Development of undergraduate research projects and supervision for undergraduates at IRID-UFRJ, and teaching placements for graduate students affiliated with OIMC-UERJ.
