OIMC’s 6th Cycle of Webinars: Oceans and the Climate Emergency

From 8 to 19 June 2026, the Observatory held four meetings with experts from different fields of knowledge to facilitate an informed and interdisciplinary discussion on tackling the climate emergency. The programme for this edition of the Cycle began with an in-person opening session, held at the Institute of Social and Political Studies (IESP-UERJ), followed by three virtual conferences hosted via Zoom for those registered for the Cycle, and streamed simultaneously on the OIMC channel for the general public.
Held during Environment Month, the 6th OIMC Cycle of Webinars sought not only to foster academic dialogue, but also to bring science, politics and civil society closer together, contributing to the development of integrated solutions to global climate challenges and reinforcing our commitment to the dissemination of knowledge, critical thinking and the strengthening of cooperation networks. Co-ordinated by researchers Mário L. G. Soares and Luan Werneck-Costa, the 2026 edition of the project was supported by the Jean Monnet Chair at UERJ, the Climate and Society Institute (iCS), the Laboratory for the Study and Research of International Relations (LabRI/UERJ) and the Centre for Mangrove Studies (NEMA/UERJ).

OIMC's 5th Cycle of Webinars

From 29 August to 15 September 2025, the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change will hold the fifth edition of our annual webinar series. The 2025 edition aims to promote in-depth debates on the Climate Adaptation and Fair Transition agendas in Latin America, bringing together academics and representatives of Brazilian organisations and other countries in the region in four lectures. The debates aim to address the scenario of the Belém Climate Conference (COP30), stimulating discussion on alignments between governmental and non-governmental actors with current policies in Brazil and Latin American countries and the debate on the challenges and obstacles to their implementation.

The opening and closing lectures of this edition will be held in person at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), and the other two meetings will be broadcast online on our YouTube channel.

The OIMC’s 5th Cycle of Webinars is an initiative of the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change, organised by professors  Ana Paula Tostes and Carlos R. S. Milani, in partnership with the Jean Monnet Chair at UERJ, the Laboratory for Teaching and Research in International Relations (LabRI-UERJ), the Climate and Society Institute (iCS), the Institute of Social and Political Studies (IESP-UERJ), the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences (IFCH-UERJ) and Rio Climate Action Week (RCAW).
