LABMUNDO, OIMC and LABRI attend the launch of the AURELA Project at Sciences Po Paris

From 29 June to 2 July, Professors Ana Paula Tostes, Pablo Saturnino Braga and Carlos R. S. Milani contributed to the launch event of the project ‘Autonomy and Multilateral Reconfigurations: EU–Latin America Relations’ in France, taking part in meetings and seminars organised in Paris and Lyon.

Between 23 and 25 March, IRI/PUC-Rio hosted the international conference ‘Euro-Latin American and Caribbean Cooperation on Climate and Biodiversity Governance and the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals’, featuring a panel discussion led by the Observatory’s team.

Last Tuesday, 10 March, the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Museum invited Prof. Mário L. G. Soares to speak at the Biodiversity Forum. The coordinator of NEMA/UERJ and member of the OIMC Strategic Group gave a lecture on the topic ‘Brazilian Mangroves: a meeting of waters, knowledge and a source of life’.

In February 2026, Prof. Carlos R. S. Milani was invited to spend an internship as a Visiting Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra (CES-UC) in Portugal, with support from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

OIMC Director coordinates series of conferences on the Anthropocene and Climate Emergency at FGV in Rio de Janeiro

On Wednesday, 5 November, Prof. Carlos R. S. Milani will give a lecture entitled ‘Anthropocene and Capitalocene: how is humanity navigating the current polycrisis?’, part of the series ‘Anthropocene and climate emergency: when science and art meet’, promoted by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation and coordinated by the OIMC Director.

OIMC programme during COP30 in Belém

From 10 to 21 November, the city of Belém do Pará will host the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference. During the event, the Observatory plans a series of activities parallel to the official Convention programme, in the host city and in Rio de Janeiro.

Detlef Nolte participates in UERJ/GIGA project activities

In April, the project ‘Climate Obstruction and Foreign Policy in Comparative Perspective’, coordinated by Prof Ana Paula Tostes, invited German political scientist Detlef Nolte to give a series of lectures associated with the inter-institutional partnership between the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the German Institute for Global and Area Studies.
