On 2 June 2023, OIMC welcomed the artist and scholar Diego Kern Lopes for a presentation of his conference Direction of the wind: a poetic epistemology of the connections between Art, Politics and Nature, at the Institute for Social and Political Studies (IESP-UERJ). During the meeting, open to the general public, our team had the opportunity to talk to the professor about the role of art in building bridges between nature, culture and society. The conference was recorded in full and can be watched on the Observatory’s YouTube channel.
PhD and postdoctoral researcher at the Graduate Programme in Arts of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (PPGArtes-UERJ), Diego Kern Lopes also took a postdoctoral internship at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS-France), in 2020. He works as an artist and researcher, having as his main research the GeoMetrias project, which artistically addresses the relationships between humans, society, nature and things. This research unfolds in works and propositions such as objects and installations, using textual, photographic, sound and film records. He also works as a researcher associated with the Organon/UFES research group.
