Prof Mário Soares, a researcher on OIMC’s Strategic Committee and coordinator of the Mangrove Studies Nucleus (NEMA-UERJ), participated in the preparation of the policy brief Blue carbon credits: a lot of promises but even more uncertainties for the Global South. Co-authored with researchers from the Institute of Research for Development (IRD – France), the University Amadou Mahtar MBOW (UAM – Senegal) and the Autonomous University of Campeche (Uacam – Mexico), the document critically analyses blue carbon credit policies.

On 9 December 2023, the brief will be presented during the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28) in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), by IRD researchers, at the Pavillon France, in the session Renforcer l’ambition sur les solutions océan-climat : le carbone bleu et ses prolongements, starting at 16:30.
