OIMC presents research at a joint doctoral workshop between IESP-UERJ and Roma Tre University

On 29 April and 27 May 2026, the Institute of Social and Political Studies (IESP-UERJ)) and the Department of Economics at Roma Tre University (Roma 3 – Italy) organised the First Brazil-Italy Doctoral Workshop. Based on an initiative by the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change, developed in partnership with Prof. Valeria Constantini (Roma Tre), the event brought together five representatives from the OIMC and four PhD students from the Italian institution to present their work on topics related to climate change and the environmental agenda within the context of international relations. This meeting brought together multidisciplinary perspectives, particularly political and economic expertise, on climate issues, providing an opportunity to enhance the quality of ongoing research.

The Observatory team presented the studies Climate Obstruction in Brazilian Agribusiness – Actors, Narratives, and Practices, by Janaína B. Pinto; Elective affinities: Atlas Network’s positioning regarding the climate agenda in Brazil, by Arthur Vargas Facini; and “There Is No Planet B”: The Political Praxis of the Anthropocene, by Mariana Castro. In addition, researchers Caroline Januario and Sérgio Mecena Neto took part in the discussion about the projects presented. The workshop was conceived during a series of bilateral meetings held in December 2025, with a view to further collaboration and exchanges between the two institutions in the near future.
