OIMC discusses Climate Geopolitics between China and Latin America at IESP-UERJ

In March 2026, the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change organised the seminar Climate Geopolitics, AI and China-Latin America Relations, as part of the programme for the 2026.1 Cycle of Conferences at the Institute of Social and Political Studies (IESP-UERJ). Moderated by OIMC director Prof. Carlos R. S. Milani, the event featured a panel discussion dedicated to analysing international cooperation between China and Latin American countries through policies to tackle the climate emergency, composed of Alexandre César Cunha Leite (PPGRI-UEPB) and Ticiana Amaral Nunes (OIMC/IESP-UERJ).

Just before the seminar, the panellists attended the defence of Ticiana Amaral’s doctoral thesis, China’s International Development Cooperation in Latin America through the Financing of Renewable Energy Projects: An Analysis in the Context of Climate Change. Developed under the supervision of Prof. Milani within the Institute’s Graduate Programme in Political Science, the research was assessed by an examination board made up of Prof. Cunha Leite, accompanied by professors Ana Elisa Saggioro Garcia (CPDA-UFRRJ) Javier Alberto Vadell (DRI/PUC-Minas) and Maria Regina Soares de Lima (IESP-UERJ).
