OIMC publishes call for applications from black researchers, in partnership with UFMA and the Ministry of Racial Equality

As part of the initiative Climate Justice and Racial Equality: National Policies on Adaptation, Transition and Financing, the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change, in partnership with the Ministry of Racial Equality (MIR) and the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA), is issuing a call for applications for four Black researchers. Recognising the under-representation of Black and brown people in the field of climate change research and the importance of their perspectives in developing fair and effective solutions to the climate crisis, the call for applications aims to align OIMC’s work with the pioneering affirmative action policies of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) by offering two grants for undergraduate researchers enrolled in UERJ degree programmes and two grants for postgraduate researchers at the institution.

Until 22 May 2026, the Observatory is accepting applications from Black people interested in joining our team, via an online form. Following a review of the applications, members of the OIMC will select candidates for individual interviews, to be held on the 26th. The final selection results are expected to be published the following day, 27 May.
