Seminar ‘COP30 in the Amazon’, a partnership between OIMC and IRID-UFRJ

On 28 November, the Observatory and the Institute of International Relations and Defence of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IRID-UFRJ) will hold the seminar ‘COP30 in the Amazon: Multiple views and new perspectives for thinking towards the future’, in person at UFRJ’s Casa da Ciência, from 2pm to 6pm.

OIMC at COP30: Roundtable Discussions at Casa da Cidade – Week 1

From 11 to 20 November, the Observatory joins forces with the City Laboratory and the Institute for Climate and Society to promote a series of Roundtable Discussions at Casa da Cidade, an activity running parallel to COP30. With 18 face-to-face meetings, the initiative aims to establish a space for dialogue on key issues on the climate agenda – and on conference negotiations in particular.

OIMC, CSSN and NAEA hold Seminar on Climate Obstruction: A Global Assessment, at UFPA

Next Friday, 14 November, during COP30 in Belém (PA), the Centre for Advanced Amazonian Studies at the Federal University of Pará will host the Observatory and the Climate Social Sciences Network to promote the seminar ‘Climate Obstruction: A Global Assessment’ at the UFPA Guamá campus.

Pre-COP30 Seminar: The Crisis of Multilateralism and the Climate Emergency

On 3 November, the Observatory and the Climate Reality Project Brazil are joining forces to promote the seminar ‘The Crisis of Multilateralism and the Climate Emergency,’ in preparation for COP30, in the Jaime Antunes Auditorium (room 9048F) at the State University of Rio de Janeiro.

OIMC programme during COP30 in Belém

From 10 to 21 November, the city of Belém do Pará will host the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference. During the event, the Observatory plans a series of activities parallel to the official Convention programme, in the host city and in Rio de Janeiro.

OIMC, GeoEcos, CLACSO and LABMUNDO launch Atlas of Climate Justice in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Observatory, in partnership with the Observatory of Geopolitics and Ecosocial Transitions at the Complutense University of Madrid, is launching the ‘Atlas of Climate Justice in Latin America and the Caribbean,’ a book edited by Enara Echart Muñoz, Lara Sartorio, Rubens de S. Duarte, Breno Bringel, Carlos R. S. Milani, and Caio Samuel Milagres.

OIMC at Rio Climate Action Week

Between 23 and 29 August, the city of Rio de Janeiro will host Rio Climate Action Week, a series of events dedicated to showcasing and mobilising climate action at all levels to set ambitions for delivery at the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30).

The Observatory is accepting registrations from people interested in participating in the fifth edition of our OIMC Cycle of Webinars. From 29 August to 15 September 2025, our annual series of conferences will feature four meetings with experts on various aspects of the climate emergency.
