Last Tuesday, 10 March 2026, the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Museum (JBRJ) invited Prof. Mário L. G. Soares to speak at its Biodiversity Forum. The coordinator of the Centre for Mangrove Studies (NEMA/UERJ) and member of the OIMC Strategic Committee gave a lecture on the topic Brazilian Mangroves: a meeting of waters, knowledge and a source of life. The event encouraged reflection on the ecological, scientific and social significance of Brazilian mangroves, highlighting these ecosystems as spaces for biodiversity, knowledge and conservation, with a view to fostering dialogue and the sharing of knowledge amongst researchers, students and all those interested in the subject.

An initiative of the Board of Curators of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute (IPJBRJ), the Biodiversity Forum is held monthly at the museum, with the lectures streamed online via the Botanical Garden’s channel. Each edition features experts who present their insights, research findings and studies on biodiversity conservation, with the aim of broadening the debate and disseminating knowledge on this topic, climate emergencies and other related issues.
