UERJ/GIGA international partnership promotes lecture by Detlef Nolte at IESP-UERJ

On Monday 7 April 2025, the project Climate Obstruction and Foreign Policy in Comparative Perspective (PROBAL CAPES DAAD UERJ/GIGA), an international partnership between the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA), welcomes German political scientist Detlef Nolte to give a lecture at IESP-UERJ, with support from the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change and the World Political Analysis Laboratory (LABMUNDO). Starting at 10.30am, in the Carlos Hasenbalg Room, the professor from the University of Hamburg (Germany) will discuss his research agenda with our team and the interested public present.

PhD in Political Science from the University of Mannheim (Germany), Detlef Nolte is an associate professor of Political Science at the University of Hamburg, an associate fellow of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) and an honorary member of the Instituto de Iberoamérica at the University of Salamanca (Spain). He was director of the Institute for Latin American Studies (ILAS) at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA), where he is now an associate researcher. His main research themes are regional powers and regional orders, Latin American regionalism and regional organisations, relations between Europe and Latin America and between Latin America and China.

Coordinated by Prof. Ana Paula Tostes in Brazil and Prof. Miriam Prys-Hansen in Germany, the research network Climate Obstruction and Foreign Policy in Comparative Perspective has as one of its missions the mobilisation and interaction between academics from countries in the North and the South, with a view to joint and innovative reflection on global climate obstruction.
