OIMC holds seminar on ‘The Future after COP30’ at IESP-UERJ

Last Thursday, 11 December, the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change met for the last time in 2025 to promote the seminar The Future After COP30, held at our headquarters at the Institute of Social and Political Studies (IESP-UERJ). Throughout the afternoon, in two discussion panels, the OIMC team presented a critical assessment of the 30th Conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) in Brazil and discussed the prospects for the future of international climate policy.

After an opening presentation by Prof. Carlos R. S. Milani, the seminar began with the panel COP 30 between frustration and some advances, led by researchers Bruna Bataglia, Carolina de F. Garrido,Júlia Nascimento SantosMariana Castro and Viviane F. de Oliveira and moderated by the Director of the Observatory. Following this, Ana Paula TostesBeatriz TrianiJanaína PintoRubens de S. Duarte and Thaís J. Batista assumed the discussion, composing the panel The Future of Climate Multilateralism, moderated by Polianna de A. Portela.

At the end of the seminar, attendees enjoyed a cocktail reception celebrating the release in Rio de Janeiro of books produced by our team—especially the Atlas of Climate Justice in Latin America and the Caribbean and the three most recent volumes of the Climate Emergency Collection—and the conclusion of a year of hard work and important achievements by the OIMC team.
