On 11 and 12 November 2025, in tandem with the begining of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), held in Belém do Pará, the Interdisciplinary Climate Change Observatory team is promoting a COP30 Negotiations Simulation at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). The initiative aims to involve students, young leaders, researchers, and civil society representatives interested in broadening their understanding of how international climate negotiations work and encouraging the development of new climate and environmental leaders.
Led by researchers Eduarda Lattanzi (institutional postdoctoral fellow in Political Science at IESP-UERJ), Leticia Britto dos Santos, Matheus Declie and Rafaela Collopy, the simulation will be divided into four stages, carried out over two days. On the first day, the OIMC team will welcome registrants with an Opening Session, followed by the organisation of specific delegations for each theme. On the following day, participants will engage in thematic negotiation rounds on relevant topics under discussion at the Belém Conference, and then conclude their work by drafting a final document consolidating the conclusions reached by the group.
Offered free of charge between 2pm and 5pm on both days in the Jaime Antunes Auditorium (Room 9043 F) on the University’s Maracanã campus, this project aims to encourage the development of new leaders in areas related to climate diplomacy and environmental policy by creating a space for dialogue between young people, academia and civil society organisations. The number of advance registrations to participate in the event has already reached the auditorium’s maximum capacity. New registrations will be added to a waiting list, and participants will be notified of any availability caused by cancellations.
The COP30 Negotiations Simulation is an initiative organised by OIMC in partnership with the Graduate Programme in International Relations at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (PPGRI-UERJ).
