OIMC coordinator participates in events debating the integrity of climate information

On 25 March 2025, Prof. Carlos R. S. Milani was invited to take part in the Climate Information Integrity Summit (CIS), which brought together experts from different countries (Brazil, Uruguay, USA, UK, Turkey, France, Germany, among others), associated with universities, civil society organisations, governments and international organisations. The coordinator of the Observatory took part in two panel discussions at the event: one on promoting international cooperation on the integrity of information on climate change and the other on threats to the world of science and socio-environmental defenders.

Organised by FALA Impact Studio, the Counscious Advertising Network and Climate Action Against Disinformation (CAAD) as part of the Global Initiative on Information Integrity on Climate Change, the summit sought to disseminate and institutionalise the concept of information integrity in the climate field, an umbrella concept that covers key political debates such as climate denialism, threats to democracy and the role of digital platforms. All of the event’s panel discussions were recorded and can be watched on FALA’s YouTube channel. Based on the debates promoted by the programme, the organisation published a press release detailing the main points of conclusion reached by the summit.

The following day, 26 March, Prof Milani also represented the OIMC at the Second Opening Session of the workshop to launch the Brazilian Chapter of the Global Initiative for Information Integrity on Climate Change, promoted by the Secretariat of Social Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil (Secom), in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Secom) and the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MMA). Launched by Brazil during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2024, the initiative aims to promote research into the impact of disinformation on climate change action, support appropriate response strategies and strengthen the sector’s international communication.
