On Tuesday, 25 November 2025, the Environmental Standing Committee of the Rio de Janeiro City Chamber (CMRJ) held a public hearing on the topic Climate Emergency: Municipal Action Guidelines Post-COP30. Held in the plenary hall of the Pedro Ernesto Palace, the event brought together parliamentarians, municipal authorities, civil society representatives, and experts to analyse and discuss the effects of the climate crisis on the city and the actions to be implemented in the territory based on guidelines established by the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30).
Among the experts invited to speak, the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change was represented by associate researcher Bruna Bataglia (IESP-UERJ). In addition to presenting a general overview of the history and current work of the OIMC, the researcher drew the attention of those present to the need to formulate public policies for climate mitigation and adaptation in which the socioeconomic cost does not fall solely on the population of the territories, but which are constructed with the effective participation of civil society and with recognition of initiatives already being developed by local social movements.
The public hearing was also attended by Andrews José Lucena (DeGEOIA/UFRRJ), councillors Diego Faro (PL), Vitor Hugo (MDB) and Zico (PSD), Deputy Secretary Lívia Galdino (SMAC-RJ), Public Prosecutor José Alexandre Maximo (MP-RJ), Fábio Ventura de Sá (FPJ-RJ) and advisor Ana Carla Badaró Moreira Prado (COR-RJ). The Observatory is grateful for the invitation received from the City Chamber presidency and stands ready to continue building connections between academic research, institutional policy and the population affected by the climate emergency.
