Last Friday, 28 November 2025, the Casa da Ciência (House of Science) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro hosted the seminar COP30 in the Amazon: Plural perspectives and new ways of thinking about the future, organised by the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change in partnership with the Institute of International Relations and Defence (IRID-UFRJ). In a panel discussion composed of OIMC researchers Bruna Bataglia and Janaína Pinto, along with Pedro Itamares (DGEI-UFRJ) and Thauan Santos (EGN-MB), those present had the opportunity to discuss their experiences during the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) and the prospects for the future of academic research on the climate emergency.

Organised by IRID-UFRJ professors Daniele Dionisio da Silva, Danielle Costa da Silva (associate researcher at the Observatory) and Larissa Rosevics, the event was supported by the Sea Economy Group (GEM) and the Security and Defence Studies Laboratory (LESD/UFRJ). The discussion was broadcast online via the Institute’s YouTube channel and can be viewed in its entirety below:
