During February 2026, Prof. Carlos R. S. Milani was invited to spend a month as a Visiting Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra (CES-UC) in Portugal. With financial support from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the director of OIMC continued to build a research network on Oceans, Development and Security in times of Climate Emergency, in cooperation with Professor Licínia Simão.

On 12 February, Prof. Milani gave a lecture to the CES academic community entitled The Global Politics of Climate Obstruction, as part of the research line (Semi)Peripheral Capitalism: Crises and Alternatives. On the 27th, the professor was invited to speak on the topic Brazil’s diplomatic activism in G-20, BRICS, UNFCCC and the EU-Mercosur agreement.
Throughout the period, our director also had the opportunity to talk with researchers from the Ecology and Society Workshop group (ECOSOC), in particular with professors Jonas Von Vossole and Gustavo García-López.
