On the 13th of March 2026, Friday, the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change will hold the seminar Climate Geopolitics, AI and China-Latin America Relations, part of the 2026.1 Cycle of Lectures programme of the Institute of Social and Political Studies (IESP-UERJ). Starting at 3 p.m., the event will feature a panel discussion with presentations by Alexandre César Cunha Leite (PPGRI-UEPB), Javier Alberto Vadell (DRI/PUC-Minas) and Ticiana Amaral Nunes (IESP-UERJ), moderated by our director, Prof. Carlos R. S. Milani.
Dedicated to analysing international cooperation between China and Latin American countries through policies to tackle the climate emergency, the debate will be held in person at the Olavo Brasil Room at IESP-UERJ (Rua da Matriz 82, Botafogo – Rio de Janeiro) and broadcast live online on the Institute’s YouTube channel.
Just before the seminar, between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., Ticiana Amaral, a researcher at the Observatory, will defend her doctoral thesis, China’s International Cooperation for Development in Latin America in the Financing of Renewable Energy Projects: An Analysis in Light of Climate Change, developed under the supervision of Prof. Milani as part of the IESP-UERJ Graduate Program in Political Science. The examination board for the thesis includes professors Maria Regina Soares de Lima (IESP-UERJ) and Ana Elisa Saggioro Garcia (CPDA-UFRRJ), in addition to the other sepakers from the following event.
