OIMC Seminário ECEME

Climate Emergency and Defence seminar available on the OIMC channel

On 25 November 2025, the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change joined forces with the Graduate Program in Military Sciences at the Army Command and General Staff College (PPGCM/ECEME) and the World Political Analysis Laboratory (LABMUNDO) to hold the Climate Emergency & Defence International Seminar: COP 30 and its impacts on the Armed Forces. Held at the headquarters of the Army Command and General Staff College (ECEME), this event brought together experts from various fields of study across five conferences to discuss how Brazil’s defence policy can be formulated and implemented to address growing environmental challenges, particularly in light of the securitisation of the international climate change regime.

Organised by Prof. Rubens de S. Duarte (PPGCM/ECEME), an associate researcher at OIMC, the seminar was attended by several members of the Observatory’s team: Ana Paula Tostes (UERJ),  Bruna Bataglia (IESP-UERJ), Letícia Britto dos Santos (IESP-UERJ), Luan Werneck-Costa (UERJ) and Pablo Saturnino Braga (DRI-UERJ). The programme began with a keynote lecture delivered by internationalist Rita Floyd (University of Birmingham). Following the success of the in-person event, the Observatory share the recordings of the entire event to be watched online on our YouTube channel. The Climate Emergency & Defence Seminar was made possible thanks to the support of the Rio de Janeiro State Research Support Foundation (Faperj).
