On Monday, 3 November 2025, the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change and the Climate Reality Project Brazil will join forces to promote the seminar The Crisis of Multilateralism and the Climate Emergency, in preparation for the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30). Held at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), in the Jaime Antunes Auditorium (room 9048F), Maracanã campus, between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., the event proposes a critical look at the direction of global climate governance and the challenges of international cooperation in the face of the multiple environmental crises. Through two thematic panels, the programme discusses the current international political situation leading up to COP 30 and proposals and challenges for restructuring and reforming Global Climate Governance.

- From 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Institutional Opening Panel, with Ana Paula Tostes (OIMC/UERJ), Thalison Corrêa (The Climate Reality Project Brazil) and Guilherme Syrkis( Brazil Climate Centre, TCRP Brazil).
- From 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Panel 1 – 30 years of COP in a changing world: Challenges and Opportunities, with Maria Beatriz Peixoto Mello (BRICS Policy Center), Julia Nardi de Araujo (Hotta Advocacia) and Rubens de S. Duarte (ECEME, LABMUNDO e OIMC/UERJ), moderated by Luan Werneck (TCRP Brasil e OIMC/UERJ).).
- From 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Coffe Break
- From 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.: Panel 2 – COP Reform: New Structures for a New Multilateralism, with Pablo Saturnino Braga (LABMUNDO, OIMC, DRI/UERJ), Laryssa Nunes (Instituto Decodifica) and Nycolas Candido (Plataforma CIPÓ, IRI/PUC-RIO e IRID-UFRJ), mediated by Felipe Sá (Instituto Santiago Dantas).
Organised by OIMC and Climate Reality Brazil, with support from the Laboratory for Global Political Analysis (LABMUNDO), the Jean Monnet Chair at UERJ, the Institute for Social and Political Studies (IESP-UERJ) and the Department of International Relations (DRI-UERJ), the Pre-COP30 Seminar aims to contribute to strengthening the academic and political debate on the changes needed within the international system to address, fairly and effectively, the climate crisis and the challenges of the 21st century.
