On 16 September 2024, at the Observatory’s plenary session, our team welcomed guest Renan William dos Santos to share the results of his research in the presentation Catholics, Evangelicals and the Ecological Agenda: An Overview. The researcher is the author of the 11th volume of the series Cadernos do OIMC, Reconfigurations of the Religious Ecosystem in the Face of the Global Climate Crisis, published in May this year.

PhD in Sociology from the University of São Paulo (USP), Renan William dos Santos is a member of the Executive Committee of the Religion and Ecology unit of the American Academy of Religion (AAR) and of the Research Group on Right-Wing Religious Ecologies of the International Society for the Study of Religion, Nature, and Culture (ISSRNC). Together with Prof. Reginaldo Prandi, he coordinates the study group Religious Diversity in a Secularised Society, linked to the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). His research focuses on the Sociology of Religion and the Sociology of Environmentalism, analysing new ways of perceiving nature and the religious appropriation of ecological agendas.
